Same trend is seen at Adobe.
What have you heard?
what can an employee do in this scenario if they have no intention to move? just wait to be fired?
start copying files to thumb drives, yes
Yep
Regressive move.
It's on a 10 year cycle. In 5-10 years they'll say they are using too much money on offices and will have people work remote again. Happened 10 years ago as well
Seeing this thread five years in the future is bonkers. Wow. Feels like I’m walking around a museum
Certain Oracle BU's are doing the same, although not as draconian (yet) as IBM since if you live outside a certain range of a company office (like 60 miles) you're still permitted to WAH. Like the article alluded to, it's not really about improved collaboration, teamwork, and singing kumbaya. It's about culling the herd of older more expensive workers who've been WAH for some time without laying them off and thereby paying severance. Plain and simple.
"The consolidation effort, which IBM is pitching as a move to improve productivity, teamwork, and morale" The beatings will continue until morale improves
They will follow up with forced team dinners and team building exercises on weekends...
how very Marissa of Ginni!!
