I came across a post about several design roles @ Automattic. I am very interested in a direct referral to this awesome company. Here is their job opp: https://automattic.com/work-with-us/job/design-interest-form/ Your help is always appreciated. #design #interviews #ui/ux
Don't do it! The culture is awful.
It’s probably better than Meta to be fair
Dunno about that.
Yeah, run far away from Automattic.
Could you elaborate for us please? Would really appreciate it, DMed in case you don’t want to share too many details
Echoing the above sentiments, stay far away from Automattic unless you’re desperate. This place is not what it seems like from the outside.
What's so bad about it? Thinking about applying
I find this sentiment a bit hypocritical. We all receive the benefit of being here, and we know we have some good things going on. (2x or more traveling a year, unlimited PTO, flat structure, amazing people, etc) We are not happy about a lot of things and especially with the top-down leadership that undermines our actual work. We could do a lot more and we feel frustrated that we can’t get there. Gatekeeping like this isn’t so helpful. It’s other people’s choice. I get it’s coming from a good heart “we are sparing you from this nonsnese we got going on”, but… it’s for some and not all.
Try reaching out anyone on LinkedIn and see if you could talk with them to get to know more about things. We don’t do general “referrals” just because. We need to know about the person to make referrals.
Also considering Automattic. Shopify's blind is 99% filled with toxic/burntout people... Is it the same here? If so, then Blind isn't the right place to ask for sure 😅🤣. How is it working at Automattic as a senior dev? What's the comp for a senior software engineer? "Low", "below average" doesn't mean much... I wouldn't recommend Shopify to anyone, yet a massive amount of people are applying to positions, and I'm sure most of them will end up being miserable lol but I can still give a fair and realistic feedback about how it is to work there. Anyway, I'd truly appreciate some real feedback about how it is.
Reason to leave in such a market?
The maximum contract with Meta is two years.
Did you apply for full-time role here? There is no conversion, but you can apply and go through the process
