You don’t have to tell your employer where your going. They usually assume a competitor if you won’t say, but you can always just say you are going to take a few weeks to decide what’s next for you and leave it at that.
Ok. They probably would have policies to deal with employe telling them that...
Yeah, never tell your employer where you're going under any circumstances. Don't even say it's a competitor. Just put in your notice and keep it moving. Some places will walk you out the same day you out notice.
Going and working for competitors could trigger legal action too. Read your contact if you have one.
This is pretty absurd advice as this is only common in certain industries like hedge fund...
Non-compete clauses are unenforceable in CA and most states do not enforce them except for C-level executives and high level account reps
In any case, always prepared to get a “walk out” on the same day when you resign. That’s the risk you take when you try to cut the cord.
Of course I know that ..this is exactly what I'm asking the question here.
Never tell your company where you are going.
Yes if you’re going to a competitor you won’t have to work a two week notice, although you’ll get paid for it.
What if just saying I'm taking a long break or saying I cannot tell where I'm going
Another question: if I received signing bonus when I joined the company but quit before 2 years (say 1.5 years but the offer letter says I have to work for 2 years with the signing bonus), will Verizon ask me to pay back the signing bonus?
It might ask you to payback Negotiate with the new company to match that amount So if you loose it here you can get it elsewhere
Say nothing. If they want it, they will deduct from your last paycheck
First, you are not required to tell them where you are going. That is your business. When you resign from a job, you are not required to tell a story about why you are leaving and your plans. You are not required to do an exit interview. I recommend that you resign with a short email saying your last day and perhaps a thanks. No more. No long winding reason why, no cringing long regret and thanks statements. They do not have to accept your last day but if you give 2 weeks notice most US companies will either honor it or ask you to leave and pay it out. Don't do an exit interview. If you have a beef, they will note it and you'll never be hired back. If you have a beef, talk to a higher up person than the one you have a beef with. Make the appointment and do it before you resign. Once you resign, it's unlikely a person above your manager will speak to you. Say your beef don't put in writing to a higher up that can do something. Hr likely can't do anything. The only thing you should tell them is you leave for more money and a promotion- nothing else. Nada.
Thank I'm actually doing pretty well w Verizon so no beef .

Depends on your role, if you have insight into corporate financial & strategic docs, then YES.
What if it's a software engineering/data science/analytics IC role?
