Coinbase announced permanent WFH earlier this year. Basically you can work anywhere within the US, but if you move out of 100 miles radius of downtown SF/NYC, they will lower your base salary by 10-15% (equity remains the same). I'll probably stay at Coinbase for at least a couple more years. I'm looking to move out the Bay Area to a nicer and cheaper place, preferably in a zero/low tax state. Currently I'm considering Seattle suburbs. Wonder if you guys have other recommendations. These are my criteria: - Generally safe - OK weather, average low above 25 degree in winter, average high below 90 in summer - Good public or private *elementary* schools (don't care about middle/high schools for the next couple years) - Enough density (supermarkets and variety of restaurants within 30 min's drive) - Good size of Asian communities (8+% of population are Asians) - Nice to have but not required: close to outdoor activities (surfing, skiing, hiking, regional/national parks), have an airport that connects to major domestic/international cities - Note that housing price is not in my criteria as anywhere is cheaper than SF/NYC #housing #wfh #travel
Not international remote work? Lame.
It's a tax thing. Most companies don't allow international remote work
Orange County for Asians
CA taxes are too high. Also, while I'm an Asian, I prefer some diversity. 50+% Asians in OC is too much
Virginia cities near DC then. Your kid can go to Thomas Jefferson high school.
A 100 mile radius from New York City will include a more diverse set of locales than from SF. For example, Easton PA, is in that radius. I'm not saying you should consider Easton, I wouldn't, but I think it can give you an idea of how much variety is within 100mi of NYC
Philly is 95 miles from NYC. Philly is awesome.

Texas?
I heard that weather in Texas is hot af
Big NO to Seattle suburbs. With kids it’s really Not worth it IMO
Why? Some suburb towns near Seattle (e.g., Bothell) seem good.
I don’t get it. Seattle suburbs would be perfect(ie East side)
Gary, Indiana is near a national shoreline / park
Too cold. I studied in Chicago. Winters were freezing cold
But it's such a nice place 👽

Married or people who have a partner, do you still feel bored?
San Diego hands down . If you can live anywhere and make high TC, why not live in the place with the best weather and great schools ?
Yes, that's my thinking too. Bay Area weather is nice but that's about it - almost everything else is shit
Upvote this, unfortunately not too much tech opportunities local to SD
