I spent the last year and a half leetcoding, interviewing, getting laid off, redoing all my interview prep, getting laid off again. Did the process a third time to get my current job. Hundreds of hours and endless stress in the whole process. This week, my dog, my best friend for 7 years, passed away unexpectedly. He just turned 8 years old. I already felt guilty that I hadn't spent as much time with him lately because I was working, and now I'll never get the chance to make up for it. I'm going to start putting in a casual 30-40 hours a week instead of my current 50+. If I get laid off again, PIPed, fired, or whatever else, I don't care. I'll grab an easy 150k position at a startup instead. Don't make the same mistake I did. Spend more time with your loved ones instead of stressing about a meaningless corporate job. Every moment with them is worth a million tc. TC: 300K, 7 yoe
So true, sorry for your loss. Like they say only close family remembers we worked late at the end of our careers, no one else gives a shit.
Very sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing your story. Important to not take our jobs so seriously. In the end it’s a paycheck. Your loved ones are what really matters.
Sorry for your loss. Companies treat us like expendable resource. We should treat them in a reciprocal way. Just a reminder than your were not born to make jeff Besos and your manager and the likes rich. Do your 8 hours and go home.
You only focus on the expendable part. But what about a steady, risk free, bi weekly paycheck for sitting in the comfort of your house and typing on a keyboard. And making 300K whereas similar engineers in Europe and else where make peanuts.
1) Many of us love leetcoding, algorithms, system design, and coding in general. Should be no stress. Do what you love. 2) Companies are expendable. Focus on building something really cool for people. It doesn’t matter if you spend Zuck’s or Gate’s money on it. 3) Max out your TC. Try to perform well at 30 h / week. Better if you could do 20 h / week - ignore useless meetings.
What’s really funny is I got roasted for asking why so many Amazon engineers just chase TC! Refreshing to see this. You should apply for a job at Nerdwallet
Are you hiring?
Why do Amazonians chase TC on Blind ? Good question because I don’t even know
I’m feed up, this rat race is just sick

Very good advice. Sorry for your loss OP, losing a fluffy friend is tough :(
Sorry for your unexpected loss. My dog is turning 12 soon and I don't want to think about that.
Agreed! Focus on family! Money is printable. Friends and family are not.
A lot of people on this app want to be the richest person in the cemetery!! Very sad
Time is more precious than money.
It isn't that one is more important than the other, but they are both necessary to enjoy life. Sadly, few of us ever have both.
Lol @ Amazon. No. I promise you time is a whole hell of a lot more valuable than money ever will be. To compare them and say “one isn’t more important than the other” is ignorant
