I'm in the wrong business. After their recent contract, UPS long-haul truck drivers make $170k+. Good job Teamsters
So many in tech don’t seem to have basic comprehension skills and cry out loud on TC. Basic pay for experienced drivers is still around 95k, rest coming in from benefits, time based bonus etc. 170 is not for all drivers. And before you cry out, try driving a long haul.
95k is quite a bit for someone without college or trade school.
Try driving line haul for long hours. Try getting a commercial driving license. It’s not about a college degree, it’s about supply and demand and there is a shortage of drivers. College degree doesn’t determine your worth.
That's kind of low for that amount of work hours. And career advancement wise, it's a dead end job that doesn't give you new job skill or transferable skill to other industry.
You know you actually can go be a UPS driver, right? Like for real.
UPS driver is 100-1000x more rewarding than SWE. SWE is the worst job in the world. Rather be on the frontlines in Dday
Go do it then lol
It's average. Meaning as a new driver you'll be making significantly less. Also, yes please, go be a ups driver. Most folks on here hate going into the office cos they'll have to drive for an hour or more.
Driving on your own time and dime is very different from driving for work. I had a summer job after high school delivering car parts to local mechanics, just driving around between warehouse and garages around town. Obviously pay was garbage but otherwise it's not a bad gig. Driving puts you into right brain mode and you don't really notice the passage of time. Day flies by, you are mostly out on the road so no manager breathing down your neck.. I actually enjoy tech so not complaining but 170k to drive around all day is pretty damn good.
