My interviewers are a staff BE eng, staff DE, staff ML eng, and sr devops eng The expectation is I can perform at their level. If I can do the job of 4 engineering outside of my own job function, why am I only considered for a senior role? TC 360 This job is only offering 150k salary with 10% bonus, no equity. Interviewing for practice but this market is wild

Why going for 150 from 360
Maybe OP wants 150.
Practice interview
Data Science is rough right now. Market is way oversaturated. Supply and demand. They get away with it.
It’s saturated with Analysts who think they’re Data Scientists. It’s much easier if you have more advanced programming skills
Interviewing for practice. Just seeing what's out there
I've also had 2 companies ask me questions about recursive SQL queries. I've used them before but never in my experience recursive queries have never been selected as the performant solution. As a staff DS, my response should be this is how a recursive query is written and how it works but you shouldn't use it. Just refactor the upstream tables and it'll be faster and easier to use for everyone
It’s funny that I had to use recursive query and it was indeed the most performant under the current circumstances lol
Json in a table, that doesn't exist elsewhere, sure this may be faster than extracting the data and transforming it. But if it's a daily job, consider refactoring your data model
150k with senior DS role? What company is this?
Won't share too much but they do entertainment streaming
Looks like salaries in the market have dropped. Most tech companies were offering 200-250k for senior DS roles 2 years ago. I am doing practice interviews in DS too. Yet to receive an offer though.
Don't mind those 4, Op, they're just jelly of your TC/expected TC.
Coinbase was the hardest ds interview loop ive had tbh you’ll be fine pretty much anywhere else
Can you share a bit more?
No equity is wild.
lol they’re trying to scam you
Exactly, they probably saw on your linkedin that you are staff, so they either thought you were laid-off or wasting their time, so they threw hards on you
In that case, great. I actually had fun and learned from the other engineers. No couldn't answer how to deploy and scale a model via kubernetes but I don't think that's a skill I'm missing out on right now
360k >> 150k.
OP was probably laid off
