Immigration policy at Qualcomm

How active is Qcom for supporting green card application in both EB1 and Eb2 category give the work visa are getting difficult. Are there trends for other visa types as well. I am going to join them so thought for asking it upfront to hiring manager. Is it good question at this time or too early to ask for immigration. Thanks!

You can ask it to your hiring manager. but they are very active on it.

Once you get your h1b, they start within 6months. They are pretty prompt about it

How about applying on OPT or O1 visa since H1b is not objective...

Qualcomm dynasty001 Dec 5, 2018

Can you apply for Perm while on OPT? I dont think so. OPT is by definition a non immigrant visa. Perm says youre intention is that of immigration. So i think they will not do it. H1B is a dual intent visa

Yes you can apply. In fact Qualcomm supports this option. The only downside is that you can't leave US until you get your H1 since that is an immigrant visa and aligns with the GC application intent. If you leave US while on F1 then it may raise some questions at Port of entry

The process can take extremely long. They had at least 3 major layoffs in the past 5 years which requires by law that all green card process be halted for 6 month after EACH layoff. I know many people got blocked for 2+ yrs because of that. And i485 can only be submitted if you’re Sr. Engineer. So if you join as Engr, good luck with that~

If I have PhD with high impact citations n over 50 papers, will that make a difference?

Why don't you apply for EB1?

I prefer go ask company to do it given company lawyers have deep expertise in handling people like me for GC process.
