I'm curious what fellow data scientists and hiring managers think about the importance of github for data scientists with a couple years experience. In my case, I have a couple years experience in data science with a small company. Experience in delivering a wide range of DS projects on my resume, however have low engagement on github. I wonder if this is hurting my prospects when hiring managers review my profile. #datascience #github
A good GitHub portfolio is worth about 6 months of experience of you're a new grad, otherwise working experience overrides it. Source: a single drunken conversation with a single hiring manager at Google
tc or gtfo. gh repo is not related at all. only LC matters. anecdotal evidence: homebrew author turned away by google https://www.quora.com/Whats-the-logic-behind-Google-rejecting-Max-Howell-the-author-of-Homebrew-for-not-being-able-to-invert-a-binary-tree
Doesn't matter.
As a hiring manager, I would look into new grad applicants’ GitHub to see is there are outstanding/difficult projects.

Have no public personal repo (have a private one for some stuff, but very minor) don’t even list on resume. Have a degree from top private school though and have / will work at G and F. Just a data point.
