Have been interviewing for past 10 years and can easily make out which candidate really has done “the work” and who is faking. Adding some funny lines I’ve heard over years. Note: I got in using the same, so this is just for fun :) 1. I was the only one on the team who knew it, so I did it. (Oh yeah, the others come to office just to eat their lunch) 2. When I joined there were no processes and I fixed them in 6 months ( 😂😂) 3. There was a conflict between dev and PM and I as a QA pitched in (like seriously?) 4. My manager never objected me (Please send this manager to me) 5. An SDE intern just out of college: I found a major flaw in the design which was missed. (Oh yeah the SAs and seniors SDEs are free money eater) 6. When I went there was 0% automation, I got it to 90%. (Oh yeah you were the savior they were waiting for) 7. A guy who was trying to change within 4 months of joining: This task was so complex, no one wanted to take responsibility. I stepped up 🧐 Keep adding! PS: I am not at Microsoft now TC ~350 Edit: Some of these are valid, but turn out funny when the data points you give are vague
#1 true.. no one knows! For even small bug they will ping me in the night!
get rid of your biases if you want to improve your game and your personality.
Here’s one: I am a front end engineer and an expert at JavaScript. (Proceeds to write on the board in C++)
Improve your English first before criticizing others
Guess some people have lost their funny bone! I already said, these lines are valid and acceptable only when you have data to back up your claims. Else More than 50% give vague answers when I’ve asked them to dive deep. And to all english professors out here, do you code in English? 😃 No one ever gets rejected for having bad english! Anyways, to other folks, keep adding.
I'm only responding to your last point in this comment: yes. people in the US do get rejected for poor English. It's completely justified for roles that require collaboration and strong communication skills. I don't think your English is bad enough to get a rejection though but I just wanted to let you know that 10+ years of experience doesn't make you any less full of shit 👌🏼
#4 is true for me. Nicest manager who have placed a lot of trust. Honestly though... it’s not unheard of people did do some of the above. Like #5 (this happened at Facebook talking to a manager about a new grad).
