Hey all! I quit my job and currently traveling. Plan to start the interview process and looking to ideally get an in-person job based in NYC. I have the option to go to NYC to recruit from there but I'm trying to see if it's an option to spend at least some months recruiting while abroad / nomadic? I do have a mailing and 'permanent' address in the USA. Curious if anyone knows if it's necessary or beneficial to be in-person for recruiting in general? (and/or NYC specifically?) From my understanding most big companies' recruiting process is entirely online post-covid but not sure if that's changed at all recently. Another factor is I'm also interested in mid-sized companies and startups (50+ people). My hesitation for not being in NYC to recruit is I'm unsure if startups will prefer candidates who are already physically in NYC / can go in person for interviews or meet the team? Especially given the market does not seem great right now for candidates :/ Last question - if a company or startup did want an in person interview, would they be willing to fly a candidate out for that typically? If so, would they only be willing to fly a candidate to NYC from within the USA and/or from the USA permanent address I provide? (Can't find any first-hand experiences of US citizens trying to recruit while temporarily abroad) Thanks for sharing any insight! #swe #recruiting #interview
I've done a lot of interviews in the past couple months and only one company was doing in person interviews
This sounds more like looking for vacation spots rather than interview!
I don't get it... Do you want to hire somebody? Or want to be hired? "I [...] to recruit" - means you plan to hire somebody. Is it what you want?
Oh that's fair, somehow I've always used the term "recruiting" to refer to when I'm in the interview process. To clarify I want to be hired p:
