What is the incentive that Amazon Mangers get for putting a member of the team in PIP ? What should SDE1 do to stay put with toxic mangers ? #tech #amazon
It’s forced attrition and a quota that managers need to hit and enforced by HR and Sr. Leadership. The reason behind this is to ensure that the bar is consistently being raised. Whether this is the right thing to do is another story. You can search blind to find multiple posts about it. The incentive for managers is none other than saving their own job, because failure to comply by putting up an engineer as a sacrificial lamb will result in the manger themselves being put on the chopping block. It’s totally fucked up and the reason why I’m leaving this shit hole after my stock vest in a couple of months.
For manager, it's PIP or be PIPed. For SDE: jump ship before they PIP.
My friend who was unemployed for 6 months never applied to AMZN despite 2 diff amzn recruiters following him up. All because of these scary stories
Switch teams. At times, even managers are at risk of getting PIPed if they don't PIP direct reports
