Today Indeed laid off around 80% of its entire tech office in Singapore leaving everyone without insurance (!) It’s a warning to think twice if you’re considering applying for a job there :) #severance #layoff
What is the severance package? Also who are the 20% left? Engineers or non tech?
16 weeks in Singapore. It’s a mix but mostly tech
Vow , very sorry to hear that. Was the ash team in to production support , sustaining or engineering? I know they laid off US workers, but wondering if they now want to retain just the left over US workforce
Singapore needs to tighten their employee protection laws. I was seriously considering moving there a few years ago but kinda glad I didn’t. Good luck to you all.
The lax employee protection laws is precisely why tech companies hire there or set up shop there.
I think it’s more the low corporate tax rate no?
why would you need insurance in nanny state Singapore?
Do you know how much it takes to pay out of pocket in Singapore?
Singapore is an expensive country mate
Is OP joking? U don’t need insurance in Singapore.
Because Singapore has no doctors?
Idk Singapore employees been upset that they are paying for the US cobra insurance and not theirs
So sorry for you. Singapore labor laws are pretty abysmal. I got no insurance during job switching and had to pay a 12k bill out of my pocket.
What’s stopping you from buying your own private health insurance? People don’t understand insurance in US is a must. You die without it. Majority of the people in Singapore don’t need insurance for the same services. You just walk in, see a doctor wherever u like, leave. I’ve never been asked for my insurance info, and have literally never had to use it.
Eh, what are you smoking sir? Free healthcare in Singapore; where you walk in and leave without paying, lol? 😆 In my first month there, I was charged 500 SGD just for an eye doctor appointment again Insurance provider found a way to dodge paying for it. The issue is its private profit oriented and they try every trick to avoid paying. If you aren't a local then even worse and the authorities don't care about non citizens.
Glad I didn’t join a few years back. The interview was kind of odd.. there’s this obnoxious white guy sounded like a snake oil salesman trying to convince us that Indeed would be huge and sht. I trusted my gut feeling and passed on it.
And went where?
Said “New”
I was rejected but didn’t get a good feel on the hiring director at all. Got a feeling of real arrogance which was off putting but not to say that all indeedians are like this as I know a few great people that used to work there that are now laid off.
Who was the hiring director?
Is Japan office laying off too?
Yes they are but I heard some indeedians formed a union and are tying to fight back.
They can't layoff employees in Japan easily. I think there's a 90 day notice?
Oh damn that’s screwed up mate.
That's an absolutely cunning move. People rush to get medical checkups and hope to be able to claim it 🤪
Such assholes man. I was about to join Indeed singapore.
