This is a huge slap in the face to everybody who got laid off yesterday. The day after Indeed lays off 2,200 employees, they blast off a “voluntary severance” email to everyone else!? You’re joking…This seems backwards and is extremely inconsiderate. Indeed surely does not have the same humanity or lead with empathy like they used to. That’s concerning. #severance #layoff #indeed
Why is this anything but positive? The email also says they had voluntary severance windows in the past, and the most recent one was Q3 2022. It makes sense that they’d do a normal layoff if not enough people elected to leave back then.
The problem is that the most talented, valuable employees feel unsafe at work and take this because they don’t want to live in psychological terror.
@techsurviv, unfortunately that’s the tech landscape overall. Let’s humor that they do leave Indeed because they “feel unsafe.” Where else are they going to go in this industry where they’ll “feel safe?” FAANG did worse numbers. Non-FAANG has had a wave of layoffs. More non-FAANG companies are likely to do layoffs in the coming months. It’s an unfortunate time for tech. There’s no way where anyone is really going to “feel safe” in this climate. Everything is relative.
What is inconsiderate about this? It's perfectly normal and instead of having people post - how do I get laid off or how do I get severance people can just voluntarily take this and leave.
I think the inconsiderate part is offering it only after already laying off several thousand literally the day before.
Voluntary round should come before mandatory round
This is great. People who wanted to leave but missed the layoff roster can do so. This also probably meant they didn't do involuntary cuts to the max. Company also probably got to cut some low performers. Win for both company and employees
Yeah companies do this all the time. I have been at companies where this is literally always on effect because it mostly compels older workers to leave so you can hire more junior folks.
How so? Why does it matter if offered 1 day or 100 days after any event? This seems good to me.
Was your role impacted?
Voluntary severance is good, what is wrong with that?
Yeah, but it should be offered before mandatory. Assess needs based on what you have left after mandatory
Totally disagree. The company probably identified low performers and low performing teams and wanted to manage them out first, they probably needed to cut deeper hence this offer.
OP its pretty typical.
Seems like a good deal to me. Wish that Microsoft would do something like this instead of dragging out our layoffs over several months. It’s like playing squid games over here.
I’d be willing to bet that majority of the comments here saying this is good, were not laid off yesterday. Wish you all the best.
Or majority of the comments that are saying this is good are more aware of the reality that many people are not interested in working at that company or that role and them taking voluntary severance will likely save jobs of hundreds others who really need it.
I loved my job there, needed it, and had no interest to leave after being there for years. I wish this was flipped and voluntary severance was offered first. There were tons of people let go who were not under-performers and were very passionate about Indeed.
The voluntary severance looks kind of low TBH. Working 5 years as a manager you get 10 weeks? But it's nice that they give it as an option.
Agreed
P sure it adds Unless indeed was around for like 2 decades
Why do you feel like it's cruel? They are trying to cut cost. Do you want them to have a second layoff?
This goes without saying, but clearly by your ignorant comment: it needs to be said. Had we done this first we could have potentially lowered the number or layoffs.
I don’t think that’s what they intended. They want to fire more than 2k. Hence, the voluntary election
