The stock market in HK comprises mostly of Chinese companies. And china has 1.4B population. Overall China is still bigger economy but this 7M population point in this context was lack of education.

The Shanghai Stock Exchange is much larger than the HK stock exchange and comprises the majority of Chinese companies, in fact its third largest stock exchange behind NASDAQ and NYSE, China also has the Shenzhen stock exchange which is also larger than the HK exchange. Saying the HK exchange is reflective of China’s economy is a lack of education. China’s 3 major exchanges are all larger than Indias only major exchange.
