Sde-1 at amazon for last 2 years. Burnt out, obese,. depressed and 80+ hr work weeks. No promo in sight Burnt by constant Re-orgs, layoffs and manager changes along with PIP threats from Manager when I pushback. Work is meaningless, busy work 30 Lakhs in savings almost, live frugally, no expensive hobbies, no family responsibilities. Should i move back to my tier-3 city parent's house and just recover myself physically and mentally? Parents are sweet and will understand after ofcourse initial hestitation of what will they tell Their colleagues and relatives about what their 25 year old son does but will understand i know The issue is also with a metro city like Bengaluru. Over polluted, populated, no same cultural and Traditional values as mine, not even same language. Everyone is a showoff and Instagram addict. Girls are hoes and drink and smoke more than men. No morality in people. At my hometown i feel. Happy, motivated and more in tune with myself and not forced to Mingle with people i don't like. I have no life, no club habits, no smoking, no drinking , no hobbies, no gf to feel the need to live alone in a small bedroom in a metro. I have a majestic home of my parent's. How bad is the market in India if i want to take a gap of 6 months? Can i freelance or try remote jobs ( fine with 20-30 thousand rupee monthly income) from my home. Someone tried it from. India? Learn new skills like AI/Web3 and try for. Remote jobs after preparing fr 4-5 months ? Any other suggestions? Sde1 Tc 22.5 LPA 2.5 YOE #engineering #software
Take a break man. If you fear new job openings then work with your HR and take 2 months unpaid leave, then revisit things again. Avoid AI/Web3 as these may be completely new to you and jobs are not there for these. You have Amazon in your resume, with bit of try you should be able to get 10-15L job, not sure on the remote part.
Take a break from work if you want. But I want to hint that your attitude towards other things is not correct. The world changes and you should change with it, especially at this age. Once you're ~35, it may be okay for you to shut your eyes towards the new generation. But you are too young for that right now. My opinion of course, you do you eventually.
You sound a little burned out. Time to take a 2 week vacation and see how that helps. If you feel rejuvenated, time to kick that Amazon job and search for something new. I hear that Amazon makes it easy to relocate to Canada / US, so if thatâs something you want to do, you should look into that. Life is too short to not make new friends. Be less judgmental of people.
Maybe OP is the problem? "Girls are hoes." Seriously? No one should drink and have a life just because OP is miserable. And if they do, damn you hoe!
Yes, the girls are not hoes if they're my hoes.
I have similar YOE and have barely 2.5 lakh in savings where as yours is 30L. And I have same bad WLB, dumb shit non-sense work. I too don't have girlfriend, inheritance, handsomeness, personal life. You are way better off than me. TC is 5L which is nearly 1/5th of yours
Chill bro, your just 25! Take a break and study something!
When I left Amazon then I got to know how amazing the world is outside. You can afford a break
Use leave balance first if you feel same post that take break. Also if your dad/close relatives have some business can join that for a change. Take your mind away from tech from sometime. Who knows you like it and never return to tech. If you plan to return back can say wanted to explore a new business.
Taking a break in situations like this is vital. Especially if health is on the line. But the job market is also in a down trend so be prepared for a longer gap than anticipated.
Take a break and enjoy your life. You are still 25 and down the lane these wonât even matter but you will remember all these good times you spent with your parents. Live happily and donât compare you should be fine. Good luck đ
Take the break. Your Amazon experience will make you hirable later as well, it's still a tier1 brand to have on resume. Be ready with some bs story when asked why did you take a leave. Travel, health of family member, studying for a certification help you cover the gap. If you've the energy, start out a side project and say you wanted to explore Your own idea. Don't settle in tier3 city, unless there are IT companies there, or you have some family business you can take care of. As for break, I've taken 3-6 month breaks couple of times, and it didn't hurt me.
Thanks for taking valuable time out of your day to comment. What was Yoe, before and after company when taking breaks?
Took one at 2yoe, another at 6yoe
