Can Indian software engineers(family/bachelor) working in California/Seattle in companies paying around 120k USD or above share their experiences of savings that you make in US vs India? I am just trying to understand how much would the saving difference be between India and US when you compare it with the company in India paying you an equivalent good salary. Is the savings difference really that big both as a bachelor and married? I am also seeing many folks in theirs 30s working in MS/Uber etc. returning to India. #stock #salary #indiasalary #ussalary
It's more or less lifestyle choice. I think you will end up saving respective to the location. I also find working culture in US way better than India. It's changing in India but chance of finding a good place in US is higher. You will have work pressure either way;
Can you tell the companies you have worked in India and US so that I can understand about the work culture difference better? Because we shouldn't compare Infosys in India to work culture in Paypal of US because bigger, good companies in US would have a better work culture than service based companies like Infosys, TCS
If you are married then you wont be able to save on $120k in California.
Oh, any rough estimate on the savings for a bachelor who pays 3k per month as rent?
Bachelor..sharing room with few roommates..you will be able to save 50k indian rupees..
What? Just 50k rupees per month even with sharing and 120k $ base salary?
Yes..but you can increase ..cooking, sharing apartment with multiple person etc.. You will be paying 30-40% tax ..sociol security ..healthcare plan etc..
How much do u make in India and which city?
phool sahvings
120k in California is going to be tougher if you have family. forget about savings, you ll suffer with household expenses if you have debts, emi, etc.
Why would there be debts, emi?
To provide more context, 120k is usually starting salary for recent graduate out of college and rsu on top of that
I was earning around 20L straight out of undergrad. Saved around 10L per annum. Came for my Masters here. Currently earning 180k in Seattle. Saved 70k $ last year.
Bro you joking? I am single, 23 and make $120k and still i cant save anything in California. You would need atleast 200k for a family here to live with some comfort
Where does all your money go? I make around the same but I can still scrape enough to save a bit for a holiday or two each year
Wow, this is quite surprising. Yeah, where does all the money go? Say the rent is 3k per month and you cook yourself, where else does all the other money go?
People who returned to India from Uber are the ones who wanted to stay with their families. Not on financial basis.
