Bans include facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Tinder, Yelp, Reddit and many more. Do you think it will spread to general public? Source: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.businessinsider.in/tech/apps/news/checkout-the-list-of-89-apps-banned-for-indian-army-soldiers/amp_articleshow/76865942.cms

It is apps from everywhere: https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/apps/news/checkout-the-list-of-89-apps-banned-for-indian-army-soldiers/articleshow/76865942.cms OP just wants to stir controversy because of the Chinese ban
Yelp is in India? Is it any good there?
I don't know. Only familiar with Facebook and WhatsApp there
Compartmentalization of internet is the end of Silicon valley. That's why I'm surprised to see Zuck rooting for tiktok ban. All FB's product rely on inter-connectivity, while bytedance's products are inherently divided at cultural borders. Tiktok can operate a separate app for every country and still success, and they're already starting doing it. The same strategy pretty much makes FB/WHATSAPP/INS meaningless. Out of the 2, I'd say tiktok has a better chance of survival if more countries follow suite.
Not necessarily. The problem isn't operating app per country per culture. Like Douyin censoring foreigners. The problem is data and tracking being sent across nation's.
Well that's not true then, because tiktok is just like appstore in China, it's entirely contained in the country and does not share any level of user data cross border.

While some of the apps banned for general public are debatable and I disagree with the law on many fronts . IMO, The apps banned for armed forces shouldn’t be perceived as an attack on free speech . There were cases of impersonations that lead to national security leaks with Indian army in the past and also many of these apps can access location data which might not be in the armies best interest .
This !! I don't know how people try to create something out of nothing. There have been several cases of honeytrapping through FB. Everything is a controversy these days 🤦🏽♂️
Lately every one is cringe-y when it comes to data. Even reddit, the sole prophet of anon, uses digital fingerprinting. https://smitop.com/post/reddit-whiteops/ Given that many folks who aren't aware about how one can steal your data, it's totally acceptable when nation forces want to enforce how to handle their national security. Remember Facebook sold the entire 2016 election and here we are with our capable president handling a pandemic with drinking phenol and galloping Sun light.
Not surprising. I’m sure US armed forces also have regulations for these apps for security reasons.
Totally fine. All militaries should ban private data tracking apps for official use. This is a nothing-burger.
