You people do realize that the bigger your TC the LONGER you have to work to retire early??
We opened a Product Manager role and had laid off people from Google, Amazon, Meta, Microsoft apply and I personally interviewed them and gave good feedback. The person we ended up hiring is a former Indian WITCH contractor in his 40s. WTF Yes, some of those people probably declined the offer or found other better jobs but are you going to tell me all 100s of the applicants did?! Hell no.
Mcol HMs treat fang candidates as flight risk sometimes. Former witch will likely just stay at Amex
What's wrong with being in their 40s? They might have 20 years of experience and run circles around people with less hands on experience.
Yes, they will be able to run circles because they can get knowledge transfer from all the Indian coworkers in Hindi.
I would consider that language overlap a merit for that candidate in terms of team and culture fit compared to the other ex googler non indians
Very known đźđł culture... It's everywhere
Indians usually donât like other Indians doing well.
Desi đ
I have managed to crack many FAANGs but whenever I have tried for tier 2-3 companies, dinât go any where đ . They donât seem to like fancy degrees and companies. So there is some truth to it.
Your immigration system welcomed that WITCH engineer through lottery so they have taken other deserving cabdidates chance
People from Big tech are a flight risk because theyâre settling in a bad market, the moment market bounces back theyâll jump, no hiring manager wants that. For the witch employee, AMEX is a level up, theyâll stay for a long time as theyâre probably used to long tenures. HMs love this. WITCH employee also has less appeal for recruiters so canât leave as easily. Since you havenât mentioned how does the YOE compares for witch vs others, so just going by age, witch has plenty. The position is not for a 10x engineer that theyâd prefer someone from bigtech, itâs PM, how much more intelligent person you want for a PM job at amex? Comparing talent margins vs potential tenure, HM might have picked tenure. TC expectations would be much lower for WITCH which will also play a part in job satisfaction. There can be plenty of other reasons. Thereâs always more than one way to look at things.
Tech companies are poisoned by H1B workers from one country and we ⊠citizens are struggling here .. crazy
Exactly and with the current market no need for h1s, hopefully Trump will do something
Blame democrats. Trump had the H1B visa ban EO which Biden reversed on the first day. Remember, elections have consequences
Yes, that seems like a typical Amex culture due to long term incompetent and insecure middle managers.. through a close hiring manager and my college mates in Amex sometimes back, I heard similar stories, as well as how these fake interviews and postings come up while a candidate pretty much their friends, contractors or colleagues are pre selected out of favouritism barring merit and skill based honest selections.. Some old companies do have those problems inherently... Sadly, the faang folks honestly willing to work and stay committed, are worst effected due to these biases...
Iâm not from WITCH but they discriminate against me too đ theyâre just threatened of folks with better exposure.
Agreed. All the directors at Amex are former WITCH employees and would never hire someone from FAANG because they would threaten their job.
100% There was a Sr PM on my team who was told by a B40 to her interviewer âto take it easy and just select herâ cz she was the wife of a friend of his. Mediocre credentials and worst work ethics.
