Do people underestimate E6 role at meta?
Leadership is a mixture of impotent guys who don't stand up for design and simpering suck ups who only get things done by treating engineers like children they need to coddle. Most designers have poor visual or coding skills. Many can barely use Figma beyond it's most basic concepts. The leads are graphic designers not product designers
Ok everyone loves to spy a narc these days. But fr fr she has a point on people not knowing how to use Figma. As if it’s even that hard to learn! Knowing how to adapt and teach yourself new skills is paramount in this career.
Sounds frustrating. What would you like to get from posting here? Can’t dispute how annoying this must be, it’d drive me nuts as well. What do you want to happen though?
With modern technology it would be nice to actually train designers and connect them to the code and enable them to make the changes. Almost everything in Meta's system creates a gate kept mess that limits everyone involved. They then toute that the company has good design to the rest of the world when they don't. They're run worse than most *old* companies.
Data infra? AI Infra?
Meta has a lot of beautycians. Lacking UX.
It’s frustrating when your team or PM doesn’t back you up even though you already got buy in from them. People at Amazon back down all the time instead of back up UX. My advice, get data. Get any customer or competitive feedback and have it ready all the time so you can advocate for the user.
I didn’t even know the infra org even had designers?? What are you even designing there?
I am curious as well. What does designer do in Infra org? I am assuming designer refers to UX design and there is some component of it in Infra but not a lot..
there are tons of designers in infra. Data infra/ AI infra/ Privacy Infra...etc when I was there. They mostly design internal enterprise tooling and deal with high-complexity fields since Meta develops most of the tools in-house.
Cindy, you remind me of a neurotic designer I work with. You seem to focus too much of your time on what others are doing, love to point out others shortcomings but when it comes to your own work, I can GUARANTEE you believe it to be flawless.
I think the same. narcissist spotted.
