Innovative consumer electronics companies

Where are they and do they exist? Maybe I haven't looked hard enough, but most companies today seem exclusively focused on software of some kind, data, a service, or social media. Is anyone aside from Apple actually making anything interesting and making bank? Like an actual product? I suppose there's Tesla. Who else is out there, what are they making and is it a good place to work?

Hardware is hard and requires capital expenses and resources software does not. Also requires more upfront work — can’t patch a released hardware product.

Thats what software is for, to patch the hardware. (In my internship I had to fix dead battery charging with a hack in the bootloader because the hardware team had upgraded the board without checking if it implemented dead battery charging like the last one. It didn’t, anyone who drained their battery effectively bricked the device.)
