Logically AWS should be a separate company. Being part of Amazon is hampering it's growth.

Yep they could re-invest all the profits back into AWS and crush other cloud services. Right now they are reinvesting all that into Amazon and AWS combined I guess. So you’re right.

I would personally much rather have AWS standalone RSUs. Also could get better bennies w/o retail and logistics org in the pook.

I don't think AWS will ever spin off. From what limited understanding I have, AWS is the most profitable business for Amazon and Amazon redirects this fund in other R&D. This will limit their funding. Correct me if I am wrong.
AWS folks never understand that Amazon will not do what they want or what any other employee wants. Next, AWS is not an acquisition for Amazon like Instagram or WhatsApp are for FB. So chances of break up from government would be low. Finally, you’re right. It’s the cash cow for all of Amazon projects at Amazon.
