It Looks like Intel has overhired folks and execution failure resulting in this extreme step. They hired 20k folks last 18 months and now firing 20% ~20k jobs. Seems like a little stupid
Lots of ifs and buts at the moment. I heard from my friends at Intel that they are still hiring in some departments. It may as well be a reorganization. Manufacturing would always need people to keep the current process nodes running and at the same time work on new nodes.
Let’s see if Intel is going to target old people again. Last couple rounds it was not good to be greying or balding.

Would the employees who are laid off be informed on Nov 1st or it will take time to come down to employees ?
Last round you would get a 1:1 with your manager on your calendar for same/next day. At the 1:1, security would show up and you would be walked out immediately without even being able to return to your desk to collect personal belongings. Your manager would mail you your belongings. The 1:1s happened over just a couple days. I don’t think you’ll know exactly when they’ll start until they activate do. It was unnecessarily cruel to some long-term loyal employees.

In the past layoffs were performance based or your manager doesnt like you
At intel your performance is tied to if you are same caste as manager or friend or spouse of manager’s friend instead of your hard work. Even though intel does layoff based on performance, it is in reality managers liking.

4 months given to affected employees
Again corrupt middle management at intel will layoff working individual contributor to save jobs of friends and their spouses. After few months management will convince Pat that we need to hire as projects are getting delayed. After couple of years intel will have more employees than before layoffs. Cycle continues.
