Joined nvidia few weeks back and not liking the work in my team. Would like to switch internally to another department that I’m interested to work in. How easy is it to switch between departments? Has anyone done that? Any suggestions? PS: I want to try current team for an year and switch required #nvidia @nvidia
You have to wait a year before you can start applying to other teams. To switch you have to monitor the workday postings and apply internally. The only advantage you get against external candidates is that you can check out the team and you usually get an initial exploratory talk with the hiring manager before starting the interview process, and they will ask your current manager for reference, which reminds me that you must have a decent focal to start applying, otherwise it's an immediate rejection, so make sure to work hard during this year in your team and leave good impression.
Is your current manager notified at the beginning or at the end of the interview process?
They usually ask you to notify them after the exploratory talk, but before starting the interviews. Tbh since they ask for the manager's feedback only at the end of the process, you can say you talked to him before actually doing that, to see if you pass the first few interviews, but this might backfire if they find out you started interviewing without telling them, as per policy, so I wouldn't recommend.
I agree with you that waiting till the end of the interviews to notify your manager might backfire. Apple used to have the same policy and changed it (No need to tell your current manager till you are sure you got the new job). What is the benefit of the current situation ? I'm sure a lot of people who don't like their current group just leave the company instead of trying to switch groups internally (too risky if they fail internal interviews).
Switch within few days? Wow
