How easy is the internal transfer process between Amazon and subsidiaries (i.e. Twitch)? I was wondering if I should take an Amazon offer and try transferring to Twitch as soon as possible or wait for my Twitch recruiter to get back to me when headcount opens again. Any help or insight into this matter would be appreciated. #sde1 #transfer #amazon #twitch
Isn't AWS a subsidiary as well?
I'm not sure it's the same process as moving from consumer org to AWS than it is to move from Kindle to Twitch.
It’s all the same. It’s considered an internal transfer, so all the policies and practices of internal transfers apply
It's not within the same org structure as other subsidiaries (aws, imdb, good reads, etc) with a different HR process. So you'd probably have to apply as an external. If you see "Twitch" roles on Amazon.jobs don't be fooled. Those are Prime gaming roles.
Gotcha, so it's basically the same as applying externally at that point.
Fairly sure you can find both.
Pretty hard. And even for some Amazon teams they’d do full loop interviews with you. The ones that don’t are desperate and usually not worth going (or you are a perfect fit to each other at which point you should know)
So would you say it's worth it to just accept an offer to another company and then wait for Twitch recruiter to get back to me?
If your only goal is to get into twitch then being in Amazon gives you an edge because you can see internal job postings on jobfinder and DM the twitch hiring managers and chat with them. Better than your resume sinking into nowhere applying as external candidate. You can also learn more about the twitch team from the manager and teammates so you get a sense before you commit. But IMO twitch isn’t that much better than Amazon, so not a coveted path. You might as well hop to other companies (like I did) once you have Amazon as a platform
I moved from Amazon to Twitch. It’s easy, but Twitch requires an external loop just like any other candidate.
So I passed the onsite for twitch a few months ago but I'm still under hiring manager consideration. Would this mean when an opening does become available, I have to redo the whole process?
Honestly don’t know how that’d work. I’d contact your twitch recruiter and let them know what’s going on, and what you’re interested in.
Just apply externally. They have a spot on their application page that asks if you’re a current Amazon employee. Pretty sure it’s the reason I even got reached out to months ago despite not being qualified.
I'm not a current Amazon employee yet, so I guess this doesn't apply until I actually start working.
Ah my bad, sorry. My advice is to take the AWS offer and push your start date back while you wait to hear something from Twitch.
Currently considering internally transferring to twitch..reached out to HM via AWS slack and set up an informational. The process they lined out is the same as when I transferred from retail to AWS so far, so maybe team based?
Does anyone know if it's possible to do such a transfer while being on L1 visa ?
Not easy
If possible, could you elaborate?
I tried to reach out to 5 hm at twitch over slack, no response
