Interned at Uber last summer, have a return internship offer, so I can go back. Also have a Bloomberg offer for internship. I go to school in the Bay Area and kind of want to try something different for once. Is Bloomberg really that bad for learning and resume? Have some other interviews that I am waiting on still but trying to compare these two right now.
Have interned at Bloomberg. Don’t do it.
Ty for response. Any specifics as to why? Just wondering
Uber obviously, No comparison at all. You don't deserve to work at Uber if you compare it with Bloomberg 🙄
Lol. I wasn't super knowledgeable on Bloomberg projects/work/reputation and the intern pay and housing in NYC sounds good so I asked. Tbh it didn't seem like anything special at Uber, my interviewers for Bloomberg struck me as the same level engineers as my interviewers and coworkers at Uber, and my interviews themselves were arguably a lot harder for Bloomberg than Uber.
Ty for response though
Bloomberg will stop your career before it gets started.
Apply to Microsoft. Internships at Microsoft result in almost guaranteed FT job offers, unless you get really unlucky. Summers in Seattle are beautiful. Something to consider if you are into outdoors.
Uber internships also result in almost guaranteed FT job offers. Source: former Uber intern here
FT offer isn't what I'm going after. How would Microsoft match up to these two companies? Between Uber and Bloomberg?
Ask if you can intern in Uber’s Seattle or NYC Office
No matter whether you take Uber, just make sure you don’t go to Bloomberg, if you have any other decent options at all.
Yeah this is the vibe I get. I am just so curious why? Like no one has provided a concrete reason, only a "don't go". If you could hit me with a like "their tech stack is severely outdated" or "engineers just fix bad code all day" or "I would not even consider someone who had Bloomberg on their resume" then that would help me decide more than faith in the Blind userbase
former bloomberg intern here. the job for me was pretty unsexy, mostly working with older and in-house technologies, but loved nyc.
Doesn't matter you aren't looking for FT for a while and you have Uber on your resume already. Take Bloomberg, don't work super hard, and enjoy NYC. You won't have too much opportunity to dick around in a random city for a summer in the future
Kinda my original thought process and outlook but now I'm reconsidering, idk I have until the end of the month. Tbh my end goal is to work in industry research positions which are hard to get now as a ugrad so I'm sort or viewing these software internships as a time to optimize for fun in my life. Thanks for the feedback mate.
If you want to do research, then grad school it is for you. I'd do research over the summer at your school
Great time to be at Uber right now. Energy really starting to pick back up
Dude, Uber. Obviously.
Obviously if all else was equal, but given that it's: 1. A return offer so I wouldn't get to see anywhere else or prove my skills anywhere else 2. I want to try something not Bay Area (I understand that this is subjective so you can't decide how much I should weigh this) 3. I'm not considering FT in this mix, only internship for next summer Is the difference in learning potential/interesting work/resume boosting that great?
The bay sucks, come to New York
