TC: 190k base, 100k stock/X years, 20% bonus YOE: 6 Years I am a senior software engineer at HBO. After the merger with Discovery (re: entire management chain 'replaced'), I decided to start interviewing. I have just finished a round of interviews with Google and Snowflake, and now have offers on hand - I could use a bit of advice. Snowflake: Interviewed for IC3, got grilled on behavioral, so outcome is not unexpected. Was told that systems design far exceeded expectations for IC3. Was also told that "you worked for HBO, you probably did not have any good mentorship, so we think IC2 is were you belong." Smacks of elitism, but $$$ is $$$. Snowflake IC2: 190k base, RSU 650K stock/4 years, ??? bonus Google: Interviewed for L4, got L4 - though recruiter will ask for up-level on my behalf. Google L4: 195k base, RSU 500k/??? years, ??? bonus I am a bit concerned with the attitude of former googlers at Snowflake. Also, several IC3 engineers at Snowflake are former Google L4 engineers. Should I hop on the Snowflake rocket and work my way to IC3, or take a leisurely ride on the Google gravy train. EDIT: I demanded Google to match my current salary. Updated Google to reflect that. #google #snowflake
Good job getting calls and clearing them 🫡

the gutter is where the snowflake interviewers belong. I’d take snowflake for the pay, ride out google layoffs, and switch later internally/external if it’s too toxic.
I am considering both of these options based on "brand recognition." Google seems to be the safer option given that consideration. Thoughts?
Snowflake The Rocket is over. IPO is years in the past. Moderate growth backed by solid numbers is what you should expect if you join us.
Has this affected opportunities for advancement (re:low hanging fruit) or promotion cycles?
Much less than Google for sure, it yeah it’s a mature product and we’ve hired many good people recently so not that many low gaming fruits. But again, nothing compared to google.
I cleared Google 9 months ago and stuck on team match. How can people get Google offer so fast?!
It depends on your recruiter. Mine got me interviewed and to HC within 2 weeks last year.
Yeah for me, feedback came back one day after onsite, nego took 1 week, team match took 1 week so 3 weeks from onsite to offer. It was the best interview performance of my life yet though
Thats a high base for ic2. Did you get past team matching at google?
Added my current base, as that should help clarify. As for your second question, yes.
for that elitist snowflake comment did the interviewer say that or the recruiter?
Neither - the hiring manager made these comments 😅
tbh i would not work for any manager who told me that
Snowflake is toxic and I regret moving here. Would not recommend
How did you get Google L4, I passed HC, but my recruiter told me no openings for L4 nowhere in the world atm. Do you have some special skills?
That's a lot of RSUs for IC2 Snowflake, how??? IC3 gets 700k
They decided to downlevel me, and I decided to attempt to negotiate better compensation for my trouble.
On a more serious note, I also had a stellar comp package in my current role
Google: Up level is tricky…500K RSUs is impossible especially in current market
So, I lucked out. Nice. Any advice on either option?
I dint mean you got lucky..just that google recruitment process is very strangr…even if your recruiter pushes for up level and you get matched with a team for L5 there is no guarantee you’ll pass HC for L5…may be HC will block and say we need more interviews…I personally wouldn’t want to be in that spot, interview is always a gamble..but yeah between the two I’ll still choose google cuz I optimize for WLB…but if you want growth/money then go with Snowflake..
