What kind of prep /questions get asked for leadership position in tech companies like Microsoft,FB,Visa,Oracle, sales force etc
I recently went through Sr. Eng Manager interviews for Splunk, Intuit and Msft. Except for Msft, which asked me to code in three of their 5 rounds for Level66, rest three asked ppl management, program mgmt, product mgmt and technology management. Focus on high level architecture and mostly on diversity and situation based questions
This for Splunk, but more leading cross functional teams when you aren’t a people manager. You can be a senior manager and have no directs and be expected to influence. We are a consensus driven company.
What kind of coding question for MSFT for level 66 ? Principal engineering manager I believe is L66 ? Also anyone asked for design related questions ?
Array based questions and date related coding questions for principal EM. Design questions around IoT (my area) and UI related architecture questions. Two interviewers were principal engineers so they solely focused on tech part and few written questions
My 2 cents: you are not ready for sr manager / Director if you don’t know how to hire EMs or tech leadership. And if you know, you will not ask this question.
That's fine. But do you want to help OP learn?
Well worst case I might fail but at least I would have given a shot at it. With 20 years of work exp that I have it’s worth trying. BTW I am manager of manager currently.
Define leadership. Direct reports? Or management of a specific area?
