I'm an E6 ML researcher at Meta. Decided to start looking around after the recent layoffs (wasn't layed off myself, but company's prospect doesn't look particularly promising). I have meetings with recruiters from Google and Apple this week. While I'm fairly familiar with the interview process and company culture at Google, I don't have much info about Apple. Was wondering if there are people here who worked at Apple that could provide some details. Also based on levels fyi I guess ICT5 would be make sense to target? TC: Was 500K before the crash. Now probably somewhere around 300K. #tech #interview
It is team specific. Need to work with recruiter to find out.
So if I want to interview with several teams (there are several ML domains that could be of interest for me), does it mean I'll have a separate interview process with each one? Or I must choose ahead one team to interview with?
Yes. And each interview loop is independent of the other. All interviews can be in parallel. They all are competing for you. That’s how Apple works
Did you apply on their job portal? how did you manage to get in touch with the recruiters for ML?
Apple recruiter contacted me via LinkedIn. In Google I contacted a recruiter via LinkedIn myself.
I’m curious.. How did you determine which recruiter to contact?
🥶 good luck… IMO you have 0 bargaining power, coming from a company that’s trimming the fat persay, you shouldn’t shoot for a level that you understand very little about. You aren’t going to be making that decision your HM is… To give you context, most people in their career don’t get to ICT6 because it requires VP buy in. To start you off at ICT5 at the start is a stretch and will probably be placed ICT4 at a higher band if you’re truly lucky.
Kinda surprising to see how many assumptions you have here about my abilities and bargaining power, but whatever.
I don’t need to know who you are or what you can do. You are devalued from the start coming from Meta. Why do you think a recruiter is reaching out to you from Apple? They’re going to lowball you, I guarantee it because they know you can see the writing on the wall and will jump ship if you’re given the opportunity.
Apple has paused all hiring. Good luck
Not all
I’m still hiring. We have slow hiring in my org, not paused
I would suggest reaching out to hiring managers on LinkedIn if you haven’t already. If you are in search and recommendations space Ke Yang is a good person to seek advice from
Did you interview yet?

I believe that there can be up to 7 rounds of onsite at Apple rather than the usual 5 rounds. Also the hiring org can greatly customize interview rounds and specifics. There is little homogeneity across Apple orgs
