Curious to know what background VC people come from. Do they hire college grads? If so, what major? Is getting a job predominantly referral based? What are into positions at VCs? What do they look for with new hires esp college grads
Best way in at the junior level is still working in IB@GS or something comparable (unfortunately). Start blogging/tweeting about topics in tech that interest you, and while you're young you can likely connect with some Partners at VCs based on your general interest in areas they cover. Build your network so that you're someone who is immediately considered when firms have an opening or raise a new fund.

Women, help me understand why this is inspirational
VC path used to be heavy finance driven, but over the past decade has shifted heavily to operating experience in startups. VC hiring volume is tiny so you really have to make your own luck by getting to know some people/firms with proactive coffee/lunch. You should meet a few associates to learn from their path, but the partner relationships would be key to sniff out hiring opportunities. Although most VCs are generalists, your best shot at breaking in is knowing some new/hot area better than most. For example, a firm wanting to go heavy into blockchain might hire an associate who seems uniquely smart in that space -- not so much technically, but smart about the whole sphere of block chain companies. good luck!
Are VCs worthwhile to work for? I have an opportunity to work with a VC that focuses on supporting women. I may not be paid my expected salary as they mentioned stock options.
