My mom has very hard earned money by working as a restaurant server for many years. She has not invested them and I am recommending Amazon. I feel anxious because it is my mothers money. Is Amazon a good stock to buy and hold? Also thinking TSMC and Spy for long term but I feel Amazon is cheap
If it’s her life savings then don’t invest in one place, diversify
She’s older and therefore has less time to recover from a large loss, so I’d go with more conservative investments or at least diversify into more sectors than just tech. A diversified ETF would probably be a better choice.
Invest in VOO/VTI
Don’t do it.
I would suggest index funds
I am not optimistic about Amazon’s outlook for the next few years and just sold all of my Amazon stock and put it in Nvidia. But 95% of my investments are in a total stock market index fund.
I hope u did before Nvidia went so high. I don’t think it’s sustainable.
It's a good call. The stocks are at dirt cheap price right now. Even if it doesn't reach its earlier levels, its too big a company to not recover moderately. Even that is going to fetch lot of money.
You might be right, but your logic is horse shit. “Too big to not recover” could have been Cisco, yahoo..
Amazon is now like msft in 2001. No growth, no new products but sitting at 50 pe. And a CEO nobody likes. Even their last five year return is less than market. I guess it will continue. Amzn should be fair price at 25-30 PE.
☝️
A broad ETF fund or age-specific balanced mutual fund are better choices.
Would you buy amzn instead of other stocks with your money?
I would 100% but then I don't know what Amazonians think of their own stocks
Personally, I’m not very confident. Looking to sell my vested stocks soon and will put them in QQQ. Broader tech might grow more than amzn. In case of your mum’s money, what is she hoping to do with that investment? Get a cushion for later years or pass it to you? Her choice of investment should be based on that.
