Anyone using Betterment as an investment platform? Would like to hear your general thoughts on their investment choices and how much returns have you seen based on 90% stocks/10% bonds? Mainly interested to know if the ETF or index funds they pick are good ones. Also like to know other investment platform choices that are available similar to Betterment.
Use Wealthfront
Good read. Thanks for sharing
I would recommend betterment. It takes away a lot of cognitive load and time investment needed when not using betterment and I feel these 2 factors are worth the .25%. I have done it manually too and at this point in career I'll rather spend time at work than manual investing.
Don’t know, but I use wealthfront and have a risk setting of 9 and have a -3.6% return on the past 9 months. So in other words really nothing worth writing home about.
Wealthfront is more popular on the west coast. Betterment is more popular on the east. FWIW, better has more asset under management according to google’s March 2018 data. I used to use wealthfront. Pulled everything out mid October last year.
What did you move to? Sitting on cash? I almost did the same thing but stuck it out, so far 2019 is up 6%
I lost some money. So I said screw it. Then bought a bunch of long calls on IWM Also. S&P is up around 10% YTD. Which isn’t a good reflection on wealthfront
Betterment is shit. I had a few grand in there during the boom over the past couple years and it gained 3%. Other investments in normal index funds meanwhile did what you’d expect them to do.
I only use robinhood for occasional stocks. What is the best way to buy index funds?
Robinhood works for all index funds. Just look up the symbols :-)
Of the major roboadvisors, Schwab has returned the most for me, but it was mainly an experiment. They’re all shit.
Tried both, same level of risks, same amount, Wealthfront outperformed Betterment
It depends a lot on what you’re looking for. For that 90-10 allocation, they will buy small, mid, large cap equity, in USA and global; VTI, and plus MUB/AGG for bonds. I think wealthfront takes one step further in diversification and gets minerals and gold and other small stuff. Performance depends on when you invested and when ur looking to measure. They are roughly the same. But don’t use both at the same time... otherwise u might have wash sales (assuming you will use tax loss harvesting). They usually have a referral program where you get one year free without management fees if you use someone’s referral code. Or refer 3 of ur friends. Try it out for their 10k minimum deposit (they won’t charge fees on that amount)
Just invest it yourself on Vanguard.
