I received a job offer for a Product Manager/Product Owner role with Cognizant for their client American Express. It is a fully remote role and they are offering me 127K with no stock or Bonus. My background: I have 8 years of experience in total, out of which I have 5 years of experience as a Business Analyst, which is a product adjacent role. I am pivoting my career to Product Management and this would be a good starting point. I am hoping to gain experience and switch in 2 years. However, this offer seems to be too low paying for a product manager role. Also, I have initial phone screens set up with some smaller companies this week. Could you please help me determine if I should accept or reject this offer? #productmanager #productmanagement #tech Current TC: 90K YOE: 8
It’s not a great company, but it’s more than you’re making and a foot in the door. We’re all on our own journeys. If this is the direction you want for your career and don’t have better opportunities, take it.
Noted! I will be working for the client American Express and I am hoping to gain Product Manager experience. However, I just started interviewing and this was the first interview I gave. I don’t know if I am rushing into it or if I should wait. What are the major cons you would say of working with Cognizant?
There isn’t much for positives. They don’t pay a ton, often overworked, poor benefits, not a well respected company, etc. If you can buy time to interview then do it, but if you aren’t lined up then, we’ll, one in the hand is worth…
Just a word of caution if you are on h1 cognizant stoped doing GC process.
I am on track to receive my Green Card this year through my spouse so I think I should be okay on that front.
Take it just to get your foot in the door, but look to exit to a better company after a few months. Definitely not 2 years
Wouldn’t that look bad on me if I switch within just a few months?
If you're switching out of cognizant honestly we will understand. Anyone that doesn't isn't worth working with.
Huge lowball
PO is not the same as PM. PM do not work for clients… advisory services or consulting folks do. Not a lowball considering this is from CTS.
What is your current role? Software Engineer?
I am currently working as a Business Analyst for a Start-up
How were the interviews for product manager role?
I am curious on what does a product manager do for a services and solutions company ? Product managers build products does cognizant have products ?
This position if for Amex (through cognizant) so I would be building and driving products for Amex
Why wouldn’t Amex have product managers that can build products then? Cognizant is a services and solutions company. A pm there is going to be a glorified project manager role. Find better pastures. Good luck
Lol, never heard of of a vendor PM. Probably you would be more of a program manager /scrum master. Anyhow, definitely doesnt sound like a good position but then again you earn even less so not sure why you're complaining.
Run away from cognizant
I’d strongly advice against joining one of the WITCH companies no matter what their TC offering is.
What are the cons of working for a WITCH company according to you?
What’s WITCH
