Is 2 weeks resignation mandatory? What if I choose to give a week's resignation or may be even a couple of days? 1. I may be walked out as soon as I resign because I am off to a competitor. 2. I am vesting some stocks on the 1st and I don't plan on loosing them 3. I have to join the new company on the 6th, I have pushed it out enough because of the visa transfer I know I might burn some bridges there, but is there a legal issue? Any recommendations? What’s your YOE? Where you going?
No. Unless you signed an agreement stating explicitly how much notice you have to give, which would be rare, then you can resign right now and not go to office the next day.
My advice, don’t burn bridges. You never know who’ll you bump into later. 2 weeks can be mandatory if it’s policy but if it’s not you usually give it out of courtesy. If they walk you out then who cares you’re done with them and they made that choice.
No. 2 weeks notice isnt mandatory. Also whoever is making you feel that YOU pushed out the joining date because of visa transfer is just pressuring you in joining fast. Dont fall for it. Lastly which is this competetor doling out that TC
If you’re in the US, the two weeks notice is a courtesy. You can hand in your notice and leave immediately. It’s legally okay to do so.
It’s not mandatory, more like a courtesy notice. I had a coworker gave 2d notice and burned the bridge but they doesn't care; I gave 2w notice so the final day is on my vesting day, a bit risky but nothing went wrong. If you have a good relationship with your manager it should be fine. Also, it's not required to let them know where you're heading to. Simply say you're taking a break and wait for a few weeks before you change your LinkedIn profile and it's generally fine.
Call the recruiter and push things back by another week. It’s reasonable to not loose vesting stocks..
Your existing employer has no right to know where you are headed. Keep your mouth shut.
You could quit on the spot. “I’m outta here, SEE YA!”. Who hasn’t dreamed of that??
Not mandatory but done out of courtesy
