I thought it had nothing to do with performance. Can someone explain what's the criteria for layoff https://www.businessinsider.com/recruiters-salesforce-amazon-cutting-low-performers-jobs-resume-2023-1
Not all who were impacted were low performers
Amazon did layoff off some low performers but it was very inconsistent. Some Top performing employees were also let go in some teams. It was a 💩show on how they selected who stays n who leaves
Entire teams and/or Orgs were laid off. So, less likely performance based.
Restructuring and optimization
Salesforce seems to be partially location based. An entire department in one location was let go, but those in other locations were unaffected. Most of the people I know that were laid off were top performers.
Top performers are more likely able to get a job elsewhere. In a down economy you might be better off sticking with the “b” employee who will stick it out with no refreshers
Salesforce wasn’t performance based. I have two guys in PIP and they are here. From what I gathered it was a combination of comp and the acv attached to the product or employee. In fact some of the best engineers and pm in my org were laid off.
How messed up is that?
Acv?
From talking with folks laid off and still with Salesforce, it seems to have been mostly based on cost. Mostly high performers were laid off, because they had high compa ratio.
That's the worst part which comes with layoffs - you lose even your good colleagues! The same happened here
Not perf related- had a new grad laid off who was exceeding all expectations in my team . Me or my boss were not asked .

Do people underestimate E6 role at meta?
They cannot legally say it was performance. Amazon I do think org specific. Salesforce who knows
Lol my last company told me it was low performance. What does that mean in my case?
If part of mass layoff then you’d have a lawsuit I guess - but needs to be part of a layoff not just like getting piped and fired
