AWS enjoyed the lead in cloud but it's a disaster in AI. Is this the time for GCP and Azure to catch up? Which startup is going to choose them when they have garbage models like Titan. All OSS models are available on all cloud platforms! Now that AWS can't make a wrapper and sell open source in research field, they are going to suffer! Mandatory mention about how much AWS BedRock sucks too! TC - 350K
Azure and GCP suck hard compared to AWS LLMs can’t fix that level of suck
Have you used Titan?! It was better if they never released that crap.
Contrary to popular belief, not all customers are looking for AI all the time. A lot of them just want to continue to use the same stuff from AWS. Customers care about services and their features, and actually having a global infra that works… not a water leak in a single DC taking out all of France (GCP fun) If aws is going to fail it’s because it’s getting too big and it’s hard to do business with us as a customer. Not because of some AI bullshit.
Do you even work at GCP or are you spitballing? There's money in selling models but there's plenty of money in infra to run those models. And train them. That's literally the point of cloud. You sound like someone who doesn't work in cloud.
Running infra on cloud - that's right. But what's AWS moat to run AI infra? Chips - Nope! Better models - Nope! Pricing - Super high for less capable models! AWS is not even able to sell shovels in gold rush. Nvidia chips are available on all platforms. Proprietary chips like TPU does not exist on AWS. Inferentia or Trainium chips are meh. Open source Meta model or Anthropic Claude are available on other platforms too.
What are you talking about? Thousands of companies use our GPUs every day. And I'm not going to go on a diatribe about why that's the case, there are plenty of obvious reasons. You'd make a shit investment analyst.
What sucks about Bedrock? You said 'all OSS are available on all cloud platforms.' but you can also use OpenAI directly if you want, via AWS.
I'm not with OP but you can't actually do this. OpenAi's model has never been released. You're free to use Meta's Llama on AWS though.
You can't use OpenAI models directly via BedRock on AWS. Why you are not with me? Why you think AWS has moat?
cloud providers only sell two things: compute and storage What they do in AI is largely irrelevant to the bottom line, as long as AI models are trained on their clouds
☝️☝️☝️ OP doesn't seem to understand this with his peanut brain
Yes but who is training on AWS? Most people are training on other platforms. You need to have good tools for training. Even custom chip Trainium is not great over competition. Even if you don't make money from AI, ecosystem is valuable. Similar to how Step Functions are free but they make money from Lambda. Not having ecosystem for AI is also deal-breaker to sell compute or storage.
No.
If you're Google please keep believing all what you wrote ;)
Dude, just go and read last quarterly report from big 3, Azure is twice as big as GCP and AWS is bigger than both combined, you can talk to yourself in front of the mirror and regurgitate all facts nobody really cares about. Proof is in the pudding. GCP is a money pit.
Moat the Goat
Amazon doesn't need to be a leader in AI, they just need to be able deploy an open source AI solution quicker that the others.
But which open source? When I can use GPT on Azure and Gemini on GCP, why should I go to AWS?!
Because GCP sucks
