Got recruiter asking me to join Apple Cloud platform team. I’m not in AWS currently and my work life balance is great as a result. I’m very apprehensive of any cloud team. Is it AWS with another name? I’m hoping it a little more chill since Apple Cloud is primarily for end customers and not enterprise.
Apple is entirely a sweatshop. But the closer you are to customer facing product the worse. Given the products need to work by keynote time the grind is real in the 4 months preceding it and the expectation is that delivery of results comes before family or personal time.
Rule 1 of working at apple is you need to zip your mouth and be a fanboy! Say as the mistress(Apple) says!
I don’t work on hardware products but the balance in services org is awesome . I barely work 2-3 hours a day.
Blink twice if you are being hostage
Ask which cloud product it’s for… it is likely to be for CloudKit, tbh it’s a pretty cool thing to work on. I worked with ppl in that team as well and they are super smart and nice. Not sure about their work life balance though.
Apple wlb is better than amazon and definitely is nothing like aws. And on top of that we don’t have pip and don’t treat people like garbage like amazon. We have other issues but none of the things I’ve seen discussed about amazon. A lot of us are stretched thin but it’s not at all like a sweatshop.
I specifically want to know about cloud org as WLB is team dependent in my experience. I learned to avoid cloud orgs at Amazon and want to see if this should apply to Apple.
My friend who left cloud said it was cushy. But this was 5 years ago. I don’t know if they changed that.
Any cloud is a sweat shop
Sometimes I feel Apple is just like amazon but nothing comes out
