1. Google search massively threatened by Amazon product search, Tiktok, Instagram, Airbnb etc. 2. Google cloud is so far behind azure and aws 3. Netflix partnered with Microsoft for ad business 4. Hiring slowdowns
Hiring slowdowns >>> Layoffs
I think the msft Netflix thing was just the xandr purchase
I binged this question and didn't get a result. So no?
Google promotes rest and vest. I know someone working at Google Express/shopping for a long time. Express/Shopping is a complete failure. Google being highly dependent on ads as a revenue stream is not good for them long term. Google needs to diversify which they have failed to do over the years.
Over last 10 years, Google went from 98% to 80% ad revenue, and trending down every quarter.
1. Google search is superior than any other searches. I use Amazon or Airbnb to buy things but not search. I don’t use TikTok or IG so not sure there. 2. You’re right here. GCP sucks compared to AWS and maybe even Azure. 3. Netflix hasn’t produced good content for a while so it doesn’t matter who they’re partnering with for ads. 4. As someone mentioned, better than layoffs. Other points: - Google Maps is still king in maps for general population. - Chrome is great unless they get rid of ad block then folks will switch to Firefox (which used to be king). - Although I’m old and still use Outlook, Gmail is a very competitive alternative. - YouTube is best free video streaming there is still. - Has runway to keep trying new things for many years which is better than most other companies.
None of those things you mentioned are that profitable. At the end of the day, Google is an ad company and the very large majority of their revenue comes search ads. Reduced spend in advertising is first to go in a recession.
aws will lose market leadership in cloud infra over the next decade unless leadership undergoes a change as profound as post-ballmer microsoft. there's no stopping the decline, the huge cost of brain drain, the inability to hire and retain, and amazon has not shown any signs of adjusting to market downturns. retail margins are fucked and aws growth is fucked, so it's a slow decline from this point forward. as immature as the other top clouds may be, at least they exist in an environment ripe for growth
Whats the last big ambitious thing Google did? Apple’s switch to M1 is super ambitious compared to anything google is doing
Google search is threatened by amazon product search? Bro wtf? You gonna replace your search engine with amazon shopping?
It is not the search quality but ads revenue. I think Amazon already makes the same revenue from product ads as Google. Amazon has only been 3-5 years in ads space.
Bruh Microsoft is 💩
Don me and busted - going out of business in 2023 😀 In all honesty I think that considering Google’s resources and engineering power, they are here to stay and grow long term. I doubt they will end up like Sun Microsystems
I mean, Sun is now Oracle, so they made out ok.
there's nothing ok about becoming oracle, rip sun you deserved a better death than that
