I recently read this post on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/antiwork/comments/rx5rp9/working_at_google_made_me_suicidal/ From the description of the post his workplace seems like a nightmare. What are your thoughts? Did you have a similar bad experience working in Google? #google #sre #swe #workplace
This guy probably can't work anywhere tbh Both google and his fault
uhhhh what even is this
What a whiner. If he thinks Google is run by some secret Christian cabal... Well that's something.
I mean... I had always heard that Silicon Valley was hostile to overtly Christian folks but I saw Airbnb hire a Sr. Mgr who is seriously comparable to a televangelist, so.... I don't practice any faith but that really opened my eyes. The guy is literally recruiting new militant Christians everyday at Airbnb
This guys thinks everyone is out to try and fuck him at every corner. Complains about binge drinking but continues to go out to bars. Probably a narcissist who gets off on the whole “everybody wants me so bad” thing. This guy sucks and I don’t trust a word of his testimony.
Victim mentality. If he can’t work at google he’ll have a hard time working in many places
“Missing out on that promotion triggered deep C-PTSD from childhood abuse and neglect.”
Pre-2017 there were lots of things that happened at tech parties and drinking events all around the industry. Uber’s blowup and “me too” put a stop to most of that.
I empathize with this guy but I don’t think it’s generic to Google as a company. Guy worked for 7-8years! Maybe his manager was a bit pushy? Can the whole company be like this? Highly unlikely. Can we experience similar behavior in other companies too? Of course! Yes. Should this be reported? Of course. If things make you uncomfortable you should either report to the HR or leave the job for a new one. Last I checked, nobody was forced to work. You work out of your own volition. But also, that doesn’t mean you should promote assholery across in a professional setting.
I mean apart from people trying to touch you without your consent and alcoholism, the rest is pretty much standard behavior that’s not company specific and has nothing to do with sexuality, race, gender etc. Incompetent managers and asshole coworkers are something everyone has to deal with. It sucks but I feel using excessive language of victimization, you only make it worse for yourself.
