Why I Find Free Palestine Inspiring
Hello, I have received today a call from a recruiter in Hitachi Vantara for a Cloud Engineer position. In regards to the company, I keep reading through Blind that the company has done massive lay offs since last year and doing a full reorg. Wanted to know if anyone currently working for Hitachi Vantara could provide some insight in regards to the company, their culture and sense of stability. I want to know prior to begin interviewing to know where I stand and want to be expecting if I join the company. Thank you! #tech
I’ll elaborate. I worked there for 8 years before I bailed. New CEO every year because each previous one fucked things up royally. Lots of churn in the C-Suite overall, no stability at the top of the org. Sociopaths seem to occupy most of the VP slots, they get their knives out frequently to carve up bodies to please the corporate office (look how much money we are saving!). VPs don’t understand Tech at all and tend to lay off the biggest brains in the place just to save some cash. Things go downhill quick when shit starts breaking and no one knows how to fix it or explain the workaround. No raises ever unless you get a promotion. Heard a “leader” actually say on a call that he thinks COL raises are for losers, if you want an actual raise, get a promotion. No promotions ever unless you are willing to steal credit from colleagues, throw rivals under the bus, and become a consummate brown noser. No promotions ever for women or people of color, unless Indian guy. Then you are golden. Black folks? I can’t recall the last time I saw one in person in the office. Sales team will sell to ANY potential customer no matter what the potential for the customer using the product unethically or even evilly (think: human rights abuses). I think that’s all I have the stomach for at the moment.
Thank you! Sounds like a shitshow working for the company. Thanks for opening my eyes!
And all of that was right off the top of my head, too. If nothing else and you feel like some interview practice - do the interview. Don’t believe a damn word though.
He's a little harsh. HV has relevancy challenges in storage and "WTF are we doing??" challenges in IoT. The "CEO every year" comment counts for 2019-20 (technically 3 CEOs have sat in the chair, so far, 2020's not over yet), but in 9 years before 2019, there were 2 CEOs. It depends on what BU the position is with, IMO.
HV didn’t exist before 2017 though, since it’s a mashup of a few different Hitachi holdings. The entire thing has been a mess ever since. HDS before that was pretty stable over all (although yes, hard to be relevant with storage when still doing old school hardware while everyone is running to AWS). So really- the CEO comment, among others, is totally valid.
Agree with the previous comments, the company has no clue what matters to customers and what doesn't. Have no clear direction of where they're heading besides buzzword bingo, marketing fund is practically non existent so sales are expected to do the marketing on social. To top it all off, orders get funneled down from Japan where leadership there are living in their own damn bubble too. Will not recommend to anyone.
Not unless you have no other option and hate your job. Ymmv, if you don't care about career growth, stability, market compensation, don't mind chaos and crappy culture then you might not find HV unpleasant.
No.. I left from Hitachi vantara 2 months back.. there is nothing left there, the management is going to fuck it up completely.. I'll stay away from joining Hitachi unless you don't have other options.. it's super stressful there atm.. all my friends and peers are trying to leave or have left
Can you please elaborate?
