Is LinkedIn necessary for a young engineer?

It’s so fucking cringey I can’t tolerate the people on that app. Will I miss out on any opportunities if I were to delete it? TC 125k not @ verizon Yoe 2 months

None of my jobs have been through applying on that app, so imo you're not missing out on much also tc or gtfo

Probably. How else would recruiters reach out to you with the PERFECT opportunity for your skills even though you’re a Java dev and the job is all PHP

I have an acct that I update every five years or as needed, but I don't post content. Not like recruiters read these things anyway, sending me job descriptions that are out of scope for me.

It's a useful tool for networking. I am interviewing with several companies. One was in response to a "cold call" message from a recruiter on LI. The rest I have spoken directly with engineers there because they were already in my network or I had somebody provide introduction. This includes startups that I wouldn't have known about if I weren't "connected" to a former colleague

Probably yes. LinkedIn is great for getting interviews

Yes, delete the app from your phone. No, don't delete your account. Update account as needed, make connections, etc. When you decide you want to switch jobs, just turn on the looking for work and let the recruiters come to you. You're not required to scroll through posts, ffs

I use two features of LinkedIn, my profile and the “open to work” setting. Recruiters just message me.

Yeah you will. I never use LinkedIn except to connect with coworkers and talk to older ones. Recruiters will also DM you with job opportunities as well. Just don't actually read people's posts.

Microsoft klaoir Apr 26, 2022

Keep it. I got recruiter attention from F A and G just from LinkedIn
