Great Glassdoor and Blind reviews. Good pay stats on levels.fyi. Heard the people there are smart and passionate about what they do. Stock’s doing decent. I’m currently interviewing for a Product role and am pretty far along the process. I was on Reddit last night and read a post that big companies don’t use MongoDB; it’s only for PoCs and small projects/tutorials. Companies who move to MongoDB regret it and go back to SQL? What does this mean for adoption and the future of MongoDB? Anyone from MongoDB, how’s it on the inside? Is there a good future for the company? Thanks! TC: $170k #mongoDB #review #career
I dunno I work at Amazon
IMO they sort of have a bad reputation as the DB front end engineers use because they don’t know SQL. Maybe they’ve made progress in the ten years since the mongoDB is webscale meme. You’re kind of between a rock and a hard place, because adopting an external cloud SaaS database is a no-go at a lot of companies, and self hosting and operating a mongo database is probably more work than just re-writing to Dynamo or something. Plus I don’t know if all clouds offer hosted Mongo, It seems AWS has a product called documentDB, and GCP has firebase.
They all host Mongo’s managed DBaas called Atlas
Lol
The largest companies in the world use MongoDB, I wouldn’t be concerned about that. A minority of people hate MongoDB and are extremely vocal about it online. Often times, their poor experience comes from improper use of the database.
This is great insight! Thanks very much for the perspective
Can confirm.
Been here 4+ years. Probably the best company in my 10 year career. That said, some teams here have better work environment than others
Thanks for the insight! Could you elaborate? What makes it so great? I’m super excited to receive my offer next week
Been in 5 other companies in my 10+ years - not the best one, just decent. WLB was ok, but now we are turning into proper pip factory, although a bit late in the game. So you may still probably enjoy a few good years. And that's of course if you don't mind technology. It climbed to a few percents of market share since 2007! That's something, right?
Best place I’ve worked at in my 9+ year career. I want the stock to moon again though.
Can you elaborate why? Excited to join soon and want to know what to look forward to 😄
Values technical excellence. Pretty straightforward but kind work environment, generally good comp, leadership transparency, relatively remote friendly, smart hard working friendly people, etc.
I'm in Product. The part about smart and passionate people is mostly true - but whether or not they're pleasant to work with will depend on the team. Company isn't at risk of going under anytime soon. Good growth and adoption. Product is maturing. New areas being launched. Be ready to contribute asap. Product team is sink or swim.
I interviewed and everyone was super nice! I asked a lot of probing questions and I could tell everyone was genuinely happy being at MongoDB. Also the reviews on blind reflect that as well!
Does MongoDB have an international relocation program which is actually functional? I see them tout that as one of the key people benefits and how many have leveraged it but curious to hear the experience from actual MongoDB employees?
haven’t leveraged myself but know a coworker who joined in early 2022 and moved from brazil to spain back in July this year. has to be a mix of company need + good performance. have heard of a few others as well, it happens.
I wouldn’t trust any company that doesn’t make a profit in a non zero interest rate environment. Their losses are not huge but I don’t think they’ve had a single quarter of profits in their entire existence - founded in 2007.
Engineer here. Can confirm - no profits
It’s a public company so …
