In SFBA, I have endless options. Even in downturns like this, there's always a bunch interviewing. Sure, it's hard as hell to pass (DD does 80+ hours of interviews before they send out a single offer, lol) but you can at least get interviews! I'm trying to get a job in NYC and I barely can find any places that are even posting jobs. It's also hard to even find tech companies too. A lot of the places I'm finding are just satellite offices of SFBA tech companies - very sad. On top of that, for many of the ones I've applied - there's either no response or they're giving a take home after a recruiter call. I'll never do a take home in my life just so that some hiring manager looks at my resume and throws it away anyways. What's going on? Also, am I right to assume that here in NYC there is more emphasis on prestige? I have a target college but it's a west coast college. I have a known company (such as DD) on my resume and some other incredible accomplishments but it feels like "no goldman sachs or jane street or Google? Get out of here." I've noticed I'm mostly interviewing with hiring managers who have worked at FAANG previously when it comes to NYC. This is not the case back in SFBA. Idk. Where are the jobs coming in NYC, haven’t been able to get a single call due to visa sponsorship. Any other place to look? Please suggest. Have been searching for some time now
NYC is fin oriented. It's not just tech
I’m not noticing any hiring in finance though. Also, the pay is much lower unless I’m a quant or something. I’m not seeing many positions for 400-600k+ outside of quant stuff - which I don’t have enough finance background for.
