https://techcrunch.com/2022/05/04/stripe-launches-financial-connections-for-customers-to-pull-banking-data-used-to-power-transactions-automatically/ Is Stripe going after Plaid? AFAIK, Plaid’s only product is connecting financial products to bank accounts. Thoughts?
Stripe is using other data aggregators under the hood, they're not directly connecting to bank APIs. Hackernews thread had more context on what they're actually doing
This is so wrong. Please read reply from stripe on hn thread
They are mostly wrapping fincity, is that not accurate
Plaid is screwed
Meh Plaid is overrated. They have no leverage in EU, it's mostly US thing even there they scrape.
From Plaid CEO: https://twitter.com/zachperret/status/1521898404061716480?s=20&t=8hjB5Rd-9kh57dPvQAiaTw Looks like some shady stuff from Stripe, but who’s surprised? 😶
Let's not jump to conclusion quickly shall we
Did he take the interview or not? Jay never answered that, pretty obvious why he didn’t answer that part
How Does this pricing compare to plaid? 😳😳 their site doesn’t really show the Pay as you Go pricing.
this pricing from stripe is a sham..they also have custom pricing option which is the same non-transparent pricing everyone complains about..the pricing they have shown on their website is just a marketing tactic to show they do “transparent pricing” and will be realistically used only by small customers with small volume that stripe doesn’t care about anyway..
Plaid's old customers are not going to switch unless Stripe offers a much lower price. But with Stripe's size, well known brand and track record, this I think is indeed catastrophic for Plaid's future growth prospect in its core business. Think about dropbox vs Google Drive, like dropbox can still more than survive and pay its employee well, but the growth potential is not there anymore.
