I’ve seen a few companies (like Rippling) have high TC offers, however a substantial amount of it is in stock. Blind reviews refer to it as “high comp”. However a senior role is only around $250K cash. To my knowledge these companies rarely allow selling Pre-IPO stock on the secondary market. And an IPO may not happen for many years (or ever). Am I missing something here?

How’s capitalism going?
I have worked for two pre-IPO startups. One went bankrupt soon after I joined so obviously the stock was worthless. The other company had a very successful IPO but the stock crashed badly afterwards. If I had sold at the peak I would have made decent money but not enough to retire. I have also read that most pre-IPO startups end up having worthless stocks.
