I’m a new grad and I got an offer from PwC for a Data and Tech associate position. Would technical consulting be a good first experience to have for a career in data / BI analytics? My goal is to eventually work for a bigger tech company. Also base pay is 75k in Seattle, how much should I negotiate? Side note: I have another offer from Liberty Mutual for their Analyst Development program, but the salary is much lower starting at only 66k. I’m leaning towards PwC for that reason. #dataanalytics #data #datascience
An issue I've seen when interviewing consultants is that they never do any in depth work, just churning out stuff so they can bill
Try for something better.
No
You can get the experience you need on your own while getting exposure to the client / business side of the solutions. New grad wise, you’ll be more hands on early, but you won’t really get hands on technical experience as you move up. I would say stay at PwC til Senior Associate and then network. You’ll need to dive in on your own time to get to the level that is needed for big tech, but it’s a good start here.
I would personally never recommend anyone to take a role in consulting if their goal is technical expertise. Consulting as a whole prepares you for management and above.
Honestly its better than nothing. Ive heard good things about the practice and im interviewing soon
good luck!
