I appeared for a senior software engineer role for AWS in Palo Alto. I got the offer, but was told that the level I am being hired for is L5. Are the 2 statements from Amazon congruent ? I was under the impression that the senior position is L6.
You interviewed for L6, but probably didnāt meet the bar according to the bar raiser, but they find you a good fit for the role and want to bring you in at L5. I think this is not a bad deal if you can get high $ TC. Lot of people as L5 get high salaries and you can settle and get promoted internally in 1.5-2 years.
I see. Any tips on a "high" total compensation for L5 ?
Can go 280-300k L5 TC if they want you, depends on your current TC as well and/or competing offers.
Amazon seems to like to low ball people. I also interviewed for a senior position and got an L5 offer.
L6 bar for external hire is MUCH MUCH higher than an internal promo where you just need to meet the bar.
How many yoe do you have?
3 pre Masters. 5 post.
260 max for new offers. Youāll be around 300 for year 3 and 4 if stock continues to grow
Amazon: Senior SDE = SDEIII = Level 6
