Wondering if is good for our tech scene, and cool enough to cross the border and get cray cray on the weekends?

Incredible place to live, if you have a remote role from a decent paying company. Otherwise, job market sucks.
I’m with you OP, I love North county and hope to move there one day. Fingers crossed more tech pops down there over the coming years. UCSD is fighting the good fight with high rankings in CS grads and campus development, maybe just a matter of time.
My dream place to live but terrible job market.
What’s so special about SD ? Sun ? Latinas ?
+ Mexican food. Best beaches. Cleaner. Lesser homeless. Great vibe.
+ Latinas
Which company can pay 300k TC in San Diego?
Great to live, nope for career opportunities or TC . hence leaving
Sd is a great place to live and party once you are independently wealthy.
Viasat is there. Not a really well known company but pays about the same as Qualcomm and is really low profile.
Viasat is nowhere near competitive with the rest of the area. I had a phone interview with them and for a Senior Engineer role that was asking for at least 7 YOE they topped out at $150k. That’s peanuts compared to what is being paid out by Sony, Intuit or Qualcomm.
You got lowballed really bad then. 2YOE 110k when I left.
Unless your in BioTech, no. I left for Seattle as the opportunities in tech were limited. Generally the largest employers are UCSD, DoD & DoD contractors, Healthcare and then Qualcomm and in that order. There are alot more Dev & tech opportunities in Irvine. The startup scene is slim and the big techs like Amazon and Google have a fairly small presence there. Edit: there's also Intuit, they have a sizable presence there. Not including BioTechs intentionally as they are fairly well known.
Dayum, that's unfortunate - I was looking at houses over there and they seem reasonable. Thanks for your input!
That’s your answer 🙂. Reasonable home prices are inversely proportionate to job market.
