I am considering a job offer from Medtronic in Santa Rosa. I am currently in Massachusetts. So I have no idea about the region, the housing and the cost of living. Only thing I know is that the Bay Area is really expensive. So how is Santa Rosa compared to other parts of Silicon Valley? Would appreciate this information when it’s time to negotiate.
Santa Rosa is much cheaper and much quieter than the Bay Area. Medtronic is a high TC company for Santa Rosa. If you like your TC, make the move.
Yearly fires in that area. It is not Bay Area and much cheaper.
Sonoma County is part of the Bay
Its North Bay but its cheaper.
Definitely not considered “the bay” but who cares, it’s a very nice area. Somewhat sleepier but it’s basically wine country. Definitely cheaper. As others have stated, fires are a real thing.
Santa Rosa is definitely part of the Bay Area. It is considered part of the North Bay. It is pretty far north. If you’re planning to go into SF then you’ll have quite a drive especially if there is traffic.
"Bay area" is defined as 9 counties, and one of those is the county Santa Rosa is part of. So yes, it is a part of bay area.
Santa Rosa is part of the Bay Area. It’s less expensive than Silicon Valley, San Francisco or the East Bay, but still much more expensive then the rest of the country. Also had fire issues, so insurance is expensive. List prices are about 10-40% lower then final sales price. To get an idea of home prices set your search for sold homes, not active properties.
Bad area to live in. Try living closer to the city mill valley larkspur etc. those are safe from fire and commute should not be too bad
Marin country is nicer. I may buy a weekend house there.
There are parts of Santa Rosa and surrounding areas in Sonoma Co that are definitely cheaper than much of the Bay Area, but not by a lot and prepare to still pay through the teeth for housing relative to other parts of the country.
