Partner got an offer there recently. My friend who was a new hire got PIPed earlier this year said it's toxic af. Basically people backstabbing each other and lots of politic going on that are unrelated to work performance. I know the guy well and he's a pretty smart guy. With the recently quarterly review, I guess there is no way it could be any better compare to when my friend left. I don't want my partner to get stressed over 100k potential increase in TC. Can anyone from Snap comment on this?
Be careful the 100K increase in TC may only worth 50K next month
Which org? Not all are toxic
What are the toxic orgs?
Monetization and Content are to be avoided
I'm wondering what the dynamic is for the non engineering groups, are they just as likely to be toxic?
The vast majority of leaders and ICs I encounter at Snap are very intelligent, kind, and straightforward people, which is why I enjoy working here. The exceptions are teams that fall within certain business critical areas that have a lot of eyes on them – things that are make or break to the business. Even there it’s not all bad, but I do encounter people that range from being well-intentioned but very scared about make mistakes, to being severely incompetent at everything aside from politics.
That sounds like a fair assessment, thank you!
Toxic AFFF
Can anyone from Snap comment about the culture and WLB in ARES/Augmented Reality Enterprise (ares.snap.com) org? I think teams are split between US and UK.
Culture is fine but the product is failing. I expect the leader to quit within a year and for the entire thing to be canned.
Absolute flop. Even worse than regular lens since that at least is an Evan vanity project that continues to get irrationally resourced
Snap is like Amazon except with better TC. Terrible culture and company dynamics. In my view it would be a huge mistake to leave Google to come here.
It’s overall an insane mess. People are extremely self interested and will back stab. Things only get done when its favor for favor
Confirm that. Really not worth to move as snap May go to $5 next year
this is one way to retain job security - keep shitting on the company you work for so nobody applies.
If you join Snap try to join Bobby’s engineering org

It's ok. Highly team dependent
Places that are "highly team dependent" suck. Schokar may have it good, but statement still holds. Source: I'm at Amazon.
It implies some teams are toxic and nothing is being done about it
